Human Influence/Health Concerns/Threats

Very few humans live in the tundra, but they can still threaten this biome. Even a small amount of disturbance can have a huge impact on the environment.

Recently, there has been oil extraction, which causes a risk of oil spills. There is also an increased risk of chemical pollution.

Tundra plants grow very slowly. Also, hunting threatens the animals of the tundra.

Footprints and tire tracks can remain on the ground for years.

However, the biggest threat to the tundra is mining companies and global warming. (Slater Museum:: Tundra, par. 7)
